A Legacy For Luke
Glen Snyder presents a wonderful rendition of the life of the small boy, Luke, living through the Great Depression in Southwest Missouri. It covers Prohibition, lead and zinc mining, explosive manufacturing, the plague of tuberculosis, labor unions, and social issues of the time alluding to such notables as Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh, Herbert Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt, and George Patton. Although nostalgic glimpses permeate his story, one cannot help but identify with young Luke's quest for acceptance among family and peers; his embarrassment in school and elsewhere; his impoverished condition and yearning for parents whom he sees rarely, and a yearning that follows him through life.
